How it works
- 1We read robots.txt and /sitemap.xml (or the sitemap address you entered) through a safe fetcher that only opens public addresses.
- 2We follow a sitemap index to at most 5 files of 768 KB each, on the same site only.
- 3We list the problems we see and the next step for Google, Bing and other search engines.
Questions
Does this submit my sitemap to Google?
No. Google no longer accepts anonymous sitemap pings. Add your sitemap in Google Search Console under Sitemaps, or list it in robots.txt. We show you where.
How do I send my pages to Bing?
Sign in, connect and verify your website, and turn on IndexNow for it in your dashboard. Then submit pages from your sitemap: we send up to 100 of its addresses at a time, the homepage first.
Is it free?
Yes. The check is free and needs no account. Submitting through IndexNow is free too, for websites you have verified.
Why are the numbers different from Search Console?
We count the entries in the files we read. Search Console shows what Google has crawled and indexed, which is often fewer pages.
